'tis the season to be silly.....

No. 1 son usually gets a raw deal in the birthday cake department because he has a December birthday. In the past I have even served up a bought Shrek cake (while we moved house) so I thought I better put in a little more effort, being 18 and all. Thankfully the junk shop had some chocolates in the shape of cars and tools, perfect for an apprentice mechanic. Especially that hammer, right! The chocolates came in little moulds that can be used again.

Lots of jaffas and smarties. Plenty of hi-jinx.
So instead of painting I've been murdering candy canes for secret santa presents. We each have one name (drawn randomly) to buy a present for with a $20 limit. Good for large-ish extended families which can make for some funny and inventive presents.

Chocolate fudge biscuits. I thought they looked better raw.
My Christmas cake is ready and unlike this one from last year, the kids can't say "Mum, there's a cockroach on your cake!"
Thought you might like this nut fudge. Nice and easy and won't pull out a filling.
120 g of milk chocolate
120 g dark chocolate
4 tblsp cocoa powder
2/3 cup cashews or peanuts
2/3  cup condensed milk
2/3 cup desiccated coconut
Melt chocolates together in a bowl over hot water, add cocoa, nuts, condensed milk and coconut.
Press into a baking paper lined tray 17x27cms.
Refrigerate until firmer and cut into squares.
Yum!
Mr and Mrs CH always hanging out together.

Feeling a little sleepy and it's not Christmas yet!

Hope things aren't too hectic at your place, have a lovely week.

  2. Love the cake, very good effort so close to Christmas. The enthusiasm is just not the same is it when there are 3000 other festive things to make as well as a whizz bang cake, poor kids. Your animals have totally perfected what I hope to do on Christmas afternoon, if the small children can be propped up in front of Festive ABC kids that is. melx

  6. Happy belated Birthday mr 18!

Gorgeous shots of the tree...and I had a good chuckle re. the cockroach. I am hoping the kids don't end up with a mouse or worse in their stockings this year, something was making quite the racket in the walls last night!
